I don’t fold my clothes

I find the folding “hacks” even more absurd than the regular folding because they don’t actually make the process more efficient! The vertical folding never works, I can see on videos that the vertical piles are falling down unless they are contained in - full - boxes. If the box is not full, that is if it’s a real life box and you use your clothes throughout the week, the vertical organisation turns into a mess. The pocket folding ensures the clothes remain folded and the organisation doesn’t fall apart, however, it’s so time consuming! Who has time for that?

I don’t have time for that, and frankly, I can’t be bothered! I hate that chore. My system to put away clothes is tossing and hanging.

I toss everything that can be: bras, briefs, socks, tights, leggings, PJs, vests, swimming suits... and I hang the rest. Simple. Quick. Efficient.

To go with my system, I bought a series of drawers: one per category. I chose smaller drawers so I don’t have to bother with dividers and boxes to contain the categories in bigger drawers. Dividers keep twisting and moving and the spring breaks sooner or later. Boxes slides as you open or close the drawers. Both frustrating… I wish more options were available with chests of 12, 16, 20 drawers, or wardrobes with 4 smaller drawers rather than 1 large drawer at the base. They are oddly hard to find, but I think they should be standard pieces of furniture!

I also bought underwear that I can mix and match so I can pick any bra and any brief from each drawer and they go together. I also have a colour palette so I can pick any vest and it will automatically go with any outfit.

Although vertical storing doesn’t work with folded clothes, it works wonders with hung clothes! Everything is visible at a glance and directly accessible. As a bonus, hung clothes don’t need ironing!

So, this is my system to fold clothes: I don’t! I toss or hang. Folding is too time consuming, I have something better to do with my life!
